Experience

Sam Popkin is a retired clinical psychologist who comes from a family of journalists and media specialists.  His writing has been primarily research-related throughout his professional career, centered on the cognitive psychology of older adulthood.  His published work is in scientific journals and book chapters.  Sam has recently penned a deeply personal memoir of his personal and professional experiences as a clinical psychologist. He self-published his memoir in the third year of his retirement (2025).  Even more recently, Sam has written a children’s book, which honors his 2 year-old grandson and the legacy of the renowned Dr. Seuss.

 Sam grew up in the lovely seacoast town of Swampscott, MA.  He lives in Northport, Alabama with his spouse, Mary Weekes, an accomplished composer, flutist, and retired music teacher.  They adore their pet cat Gracie and their dog Mija.  They have a large circle of friends with whom they visit locally or through travel on a regular basis.  Sam is a self-taught keyboard player who has enjoyed playing in various bands over decades.
